Ute Lake: Feb. 4. John Duke of Friona, Texas
caught a nice 1.25 pound crappie. He was using a chartreuse slab
spoon tipped with a minnow. He caught the crappie and a 3 pound
walleye at 56 feet while fishing near Watson Island.
NORTHEAST
AREA
COCHITI LAKE: We had no reports from anglers
this week.
CONCHAS LAKE: Fishing continued to be slow for
all species this past week. Fishing pressure was very light.
EAGLE NEST LAKE: Not much change in the ice
conditions from last week. It was still unsafe for fishing as
of Monday. Conditions may change and anglers should call the state
park office at 505-377-1594 for ice condition updates.
LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE: As
of this past Monday, Lake Alice was still covered with a thin
layer of ice and closed to fishing. Lake Maloya was open
to bank fishing as 2/3 of the lake was free of ice. Fishing was
fair for anglers using power bait for trout. Fishing pressure
was light. Anglers should call the Sugarite state park office
at 505-445-5607 for updated ice conditions.
PECOS RIVER: As of Monday morning, water flow
was 5.4cfs near Anton Chico. Fishing in the Villanueva area was
fair for anglers using bead head nymphs and salmon eggs for trout.
RED RIVER: Water flow near Questa was 14cfs
and below the hatchery was 45cfs as of Monday. Down stream from
the hatchery, trout fishing was fair for anglers using dry/dropper
combinations with small bead head nymphs. There was also some
dry fly action in the late afternoon hours.
RIO GRANDE: As of Monday, water flow near the
Taos Junction Bridge was 476cfs. Fishing for northern pike was
fair this past week. Best baits were bunny leaches, spoons and
jerk baits. Fishing for trout was slow.
STORRIE LAKE: The lake was about 90% free of
ice as of Monday but we had no reports from anglers. For updated
conditions, call the state park office at 505-425-7278.
UTE LAKE: Water surface temps ranged from 41-to-45
degrees this past week. Fishing was a bit tough but some anglers
managed to find white bass, walleye and crappie near Horseshoe
Bend and around Watson Island. They were using slab spoons at
50-to-60 feet and trolling rip shad at 22-28 feet. Most of the
white bass were taken trolling while the crappie and white bass
were picked up on the slab spoons tipped with minnows.
NORTHWEST AREA
ABIQUIU LAKE: There was very light pressure
on the lake again this past week. One angler fishing from the
bank near the boat ramp caught an 18 inch rainbow trout.
He was using salmon eggs.
ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: Fishing was reported
fair for anglers using salmon eggs, small wet flies and wax worms
for trout. The best reports we received this week came from anglers
fishing the Bernalillo Drain.
BLUEWATER LAKE : Thin ice conditions continue
to exist with just a bit of open water on the really warm days.
There is no ice fishing at this time. Contact the state park office
at 505-876-2391 for updated ice conditions.
CONSERVANCY PARK LAKE: Fishing was good this
past week for anglers fishing the youth pond and the regular waters.
They were using salmon eggs, wax worms, power bait, small spoons,
prop flies and bead head nymphs. Best flies on the catch and release
water were bead head nymphs worked deep.
CHAMA RIVER: Water flow below El Vado Lake on
Monday morning was 321cfs and 25cfs below Abiquiu. Fishing below
Abiquiu was fair for anglers using spinners and salmon eggs. They
were catching 8-to-14 inch rainbows. Below El Vado, fishing was
fair for anglers using bead head nymphs, salmon eggs and night
crawlers for a mix of brown and rainbow trout.
EL VADO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers
again this week. The majority of the lake was iced over but there
was some open water near the north boat ramp and near the dam.
FENTON LAKE: As of this past Monday, there
was no open water for bank fishing and the ice was too thin to
allow ice fishing. Call the state park office at 505-829-3630
for updated ice conditions.
HERON LAKE: Bank fishing was reported
as good near La Laja and fair at the Ridge Rock area this past
week. Anglers did best using power bait and salmon eggs for rainbow
trout. For updated conditions, call the state park office at 505-588-7470.
JEMEZ RIVER: As of Monday, water flow on the
Jemez near Jemez Springs was 20cfs. Trout fishing was rated as
slow this past week. A few trout were taken by anglers using small
bead head nymphs and salmon eggs and fishing below the Soda Dam
area.
NAVAJO LAKE: There were a few boats on
the water but we had no reports from anglers this week.
SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday
morning was 371cfs. Trout fishing in the Quality Waters was good
for anglers using RS2s, red annelids, tan midge larva and small
leeches. They were using size 20 and 22 flies in the upper flats
and larger flies downstream. Through the bait waters, anglers
did best using bead head wooly buggers, copper john barrs and
salmon eggs.
SOUTHWEST AREA
BEAR CANYON: Fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers
using salmon eggs for trout.
BILL EVANS LAKE: Fishing was fair using salmon
eggs and power bait for trout.
BURN LAKE: Fishing was fair using power
bait, cheese and salmon eggs for trout.
CABALLO LAKE: Mixed reports from anglers this
past week. Some said it was very slow while other did well for
white bass and walleye. One angler fishing near the dam caught
several nice white bass. He was using green sassy shad. Another
angler fishing the upper end of the lake reported catching walleye
but we were unable to verify what he was using for bait.
ELEPHANT BUTTE: The surface temperature this
past week ranged from 43-to-47 degrees and the water was still
quite murky. Fishing was slow for all species but there were a
few catfish taken on live bait and dough baits fished at the north
end of the lake. We had no reports on other species. There were
also a few white bass and small stripers taken on live bait fished
deep.
ESCONDIDA LAKE: Fishing was fair for anglers
using salmon eggs and power bait for trout. A few were also taken
on small spoons.
GILA RIVER: Water on the main river was
flowing at 54cfs as of Monday morning. We had no reports from
anglers fishing the Forks this week.
GLENWOOD POND: Trout fishing was good
for anglers using power bait and salmon eggs.
LAKE ROBERTS: We had no reports from anglers
this past week.
PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species.
QUEMADO LAKE: As of Monday, the lake was
covered with a thin layer of ice which is unsafe for fishing at
this time. Anglers should call the Quemado Ranger District at
505-773-4678 for updated conditions.
RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant
Butte was 4.7cfs on Monday. We had no reports from anglers this
week. The flow is up a bit from last week. Anglers should look
for trout in the deeper holes. Try using salmon eggs or wet flies
such as copper john barrs or bead head wooly buggers worked slowly
through the holes.
SOUTHEAST AREA
BATAAN LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
BOSQUE REDONDO: Fishing was fair for anglers
using corn, power bait, prop flies and salmon eggs for trout.
BOTTOMLESS LAKES: Fishing at
Cottonwood and Devil's Inkwell was fair for anglers using salmon
eggs, power bait and cheese for trout.
BRANTLEY: Fishing was slow for all species.
CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE:
Fishing was slow for all species.
GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR:
We had no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE VAN: Fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers
using power bait and salmon eggs for trout.
PECOS: Below Sumner Lake, water flow on Monday
was 25cfs. Fishing was reported as fair for anglers using salmon
eggs for trout.
PERCH LAKE: Fishing was fair for anglers
using salmon eggs, corn/egg combinations and power bait for trout.
RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow as of Monday
was .35cfs. Fishing was slow.
SANTA ROSA LAKE: We had no reports from
anglers this week.
SUMNER LAKE: There was very light fishing pressure
again this past week but anglers working near the dam this past
Saturday did quite well. They were working slab spoons in 20-to-25
feet of water and catching two-to-three pound smallmouth bass
and some good white bass. They also reported catching a small
crappie and a small walleye.
"
