The Cimarron is starting to fish well with a pre-runoff inflow from the tributaries and should improve weekly thru June. We are still using Ute Creek Ranch and the Cimarroncita.

5th Annual Superfly 1st Annual Guide Edition April 17-18, 2010

This is an opportunity for all of you guides and industry professionals to take the gloves off for a 2 day fly fishing tournament on the Conejos River. In the past the guides and amateurs fished together in this event but this year for the first time we are going to have a separate event for the guides and prof’s with slightly a different format. Please read the details carefully before submitting an entry.

5th Annual Conejos Superfly Amatuer Edition April 9-11, 2010

You are invited to fish in the Fifth Annual Conejos Superfly. The Superfly is a fishing tournament held on the Conejos River with two-man teams competing for fun, prizes, and the chance to be 2010 Superfly Champions. There will be games, prizes, fishing excursions, evening parties and a chance to have your name engraved on the coveted Mayfly Trophy. Here are some of the details:

Seeking Advice

I'd like to make an appeal, on behalf of my boyfriend. You see, I know nothing of fly fishing, except that he's been daydreaming of "fly fishing in New Mexico" for the past 3 years. I'd like to fulfill this daydream for his upcoming birthday, but I have no idea where, when, or exactly how, to send him.

I am hoping, on behalf of my out-doorsy boyfiend who has chosen an in-doorsy girlfriend, that some of you can help me so that I don't send him to a river which is sans fish and/or frozen over.

Any advice, in my state of utter ignorance, would be helpful.

2009 New Mexico Fly Fishing Season

Runoff is in full flower on all our area streams and only the Cimarron and Culebra are fishing well right now. The flow on the Culebra has just started to rise as irrigation season begins and the inflow should improve fishing considerably thru May and June. The Cimarron has been fishing well for the past month and should continue thru June and the Stonefly Hatch. We are fishing the Ute Creek Ranch and the Cimarroncita and both are doing well with the snowmelt adding to whatever is being released from Eagle Nest. We still have access on the Culebra.

TROUT STOCKING RAISES AWARENESS OF SAN JUAN RIVER'S TROPHY TROUT WATERS

NAVAJO DAM -- Anglers, guides and conservation groups joined the Department of Game and Fish on the trophy trout waters of the San Juan River recently to stock more trout and begin a dialog to address ways to enhance the world-class fishery below Navajo Dam.

ICE FISHING OPENS FRIDAY, DEC. 28, AT EAGLE NEST LAKE

EAGLE NEST -- Eagle Nest Lake will open for ice fishing Friday, Dec. 28, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish and New Mexico State Parks Division announced. Recent cold weather has created ice thickness exceeding the 9-inch minimum set by the Department to ensure safety. Ice depth Wednesday measured from 9 to 11 inches and more cold weather is in the forecast.

3rd. Annual Conejos Superfly

Well, it could wait no longer. The 3rd. Annual Conejos Superfly is on the way. April 25 thru 27. Similar format to last year except we are giving the weekend a purpose. I have been speaking with TU and other agencies about the need for some habitat work to be done on the Conejos. Well the Conejos Habitat Project was birthed and we at Conejos River Anglers will be spending alot of our time and focus on making the Conejos a better place for a trout to live.
